The proportion of students in the Faroe Islands who had been drinking alcohol during the last 12 months was lower than the average (76 compared to 83%), while the proportion of students who had been drunk during the same period was slightly above average (57 versus 53%). However, the lifetime smoking prevalence is substantially higher in the Faroe Islands (83%) than the average for all ESPAD countries (66%) and the 30 days prevalence of smoking slightly higher (41 compared to 35%). Very few students in the Faroe Islands had used any illicit drug. |

The proportion of students who had used marijuana or hashish was less than half the average (9% versus 21%) and the same can be said about any other illicit drug than cannabis (2 compared to 6%). The proportion reporting use of inhalants was about the same as the average (11 and 10% respectively) and this is also true regarding the use of tranquillisers or sedatives without a doctor’s prescription (5 versus 6%). The use of alcohol together with pills is slightly higher than the average (10 compared to 7%). |
