A vast majority of the students in Greece had been drinking an alcoholic beverage during the last 12 months (91%), which is above average (83%). In contrast, less than the average had been drunk during the same period (37% compared to 53%). Lifetime smoking among the Greek students is also below average (50 versus 66%) and the 30 days prevalence of smoking has the same tendency (28 compared to 35%). The use of marijuana or hashish is much lower than average (6 compared to 21%) and the use of any illicit drug but cannabis shows a difference in the same direction (3 versus 6%). |

The proportion of students who had used inhalants is higher in Greece (15%) than the average for all ESPAD countries (10%), while the use of tranquillisers or sedatives without a doctor’s prescription is closer to the average (4 versus 6%). The proportion reporting use of alcohol in combination with pills is much smaller than the average for all countries (2 compared to 7%). |
