The proportion of students in Romania who had consumed any alcohol during the last 12 months is close to the average for all ESPAD countries (80 versus 83%), while the proportion reporting drunkenness during the same period is substantially lower (36 compared to 53%). The lifetime smoking figure (62%) is close to the ESPAD average (66%), while the 30 days prevalence figure (29%) is lower than the average (35%). Very few students (3%) reported use of marijuana or hashish, which is much below the average (21%). |

The proportion of students who reported use of any illicit drug other than cannabis is also lower than the average (2 compared to 6%). Very few students in Romania had used inhalants (2 compared to 10%), while the use of tranquillisers or sedatives without a doctor’s prescription was about the same as the average (5 and 6% respectively). The proportion of students who had used alcohol in combination with pills was 3%, which is half the average (7%). |
