While the Swedish data show rather moderate levels in comparison with other countries, reported consumption on the latest drinking day (5.2 cl alc. 100%) is clearly higher than average. The rate of alcohol use during the past 12 months (71%) is below mean, though, while more than one third (37%) of the students reported drunkenness during the same period, which is very close to the ESPAD average. Fewer students than average had been smoking during the past 30 days (21%), and lifetime use of cannabis (7%) was only about one third of the ESPAD mean. Very few (4%) reported any use of drugs other than cannabis. The remaining variables are all close to average: use of inhalants (9%), non-prescription use of tranquillisers or sedatives (7%) and use of pills in combination with alcohol (7%). |
