A vast majority of the students in the Slovak Republic had been drinking alcohol during the last 12 months (90%), which is higher than the average for all ESPAD countries (83%). The tendency was the same about the proportion reporting drunkenness during the last 30 days (57 compared to 53%). Also the lifetime prevalence of smoking cigarettes was a bit higher among students in the Slovak Republic (74 versus 66%). However, the 30 days prevalence figure was about the same as the ESPAD average (37 and 35% respectively). |

A higher proportion of the Slovakian students had used marijuana or hashish (27%) than the average for all countries (21%), while the proportion reporting use of illicit drugs other than cannabis is equal (6%). Inhalants are used in the Slovak Republic to the same extent as the average (9 versus 10%) and about the same is true for tranquillisers and sedatives without a doctor’s prescription (4 compared to 6%). However, many more had used alcohol together pills than the ESPAD average (15 and 7% respectively). |
